Like the Amish!

Jack Hildreth is my friend, associate and a guest blogger here at Mosaic Culture. Here are his thoughts...

I enjoy riding my bicycle a few miles from my house on the open roads through Amish Country. The scenery is made of gold wheat fields, tall corn and rich woods. There are stunning blue birds, gold finches and of course, bright red cardinals.  And who isn’t somewhat curious when they see a horse drawn carriage and children in their dresses and suspenders playing in the yard? Sometimes I wonder if the simple life isn’t better: Where life is about growing your own food and spending time with family and friends. Community and God are central to your life not 'stuff' or your career. Riding through the peaceful countryside I think to myself it would be great if the whole community came and built (not so much) a barn for someone… but a house!  Wow, That would be a great benefit of a good Amish community. But personally, I could never be Amish, I like funky clothing, watching sports on TV, driving cars, listening to music, having an ice cold coke and much more. No, I could not be Amish…

But can we create great community? …the kind of community where people help you feel part of the family and don’t not push, force, or manipulate, but give grace, mercy, and most of all love in all they do. Kind of like the Amish?

Now in the church we may not build physical barns or homes for one another, but we build and change whole communities because we see the people of our city as God does. We will stick together like the Amish not to control and protect our tradition, but to change our community and bring heaven to earth.

So this Sunday, please pray about how you can make a difference and get the full benefit of being molded into Jesus’ hands and feet. Most of all, ask God what you need to give in the miracle offering. Yes, where your treasure is, there your heart will be too. Luke 12:34 Let's experience a miracle together.
